The time required to find them is contingent on your difficulty setting. All throughout New York are a slew of villains who need a good pounding and upon defeat they let slip some vital information. The main goal is, of course, to defuse the Kingpin's bomb, but to do this you need to learn how. The timer carries over between levels, but it does not go down while on the overworld map, however if you lose all your health, Spider-Man will end up arrested or hospitalized and both outcomes take a chunk of your time away upon continuing. At all times a timer is counting down twenty-four hours though it is closer to thirty minutes. When you select a level from the overworld map you move to the exit taking out anyone in your way. The gameplay is classic side scrolling beat 'em up fare. But the Kingpin has hired a rogues gallery of super villains to stop Spider-Man and the police will stop at nothing to apprehend him. Peter then dons his costume and sets out as Spider-man to stop Fisk and defuse the bomb, if one really exists. Fisk sets a bounty of half a million dollars to whoever captures Spider-Man. In this game we find Peter Parker enjoying a quiet evening with Mary Jane when suddenly Wilson Fisk, known to Peter as the villainous Kingpin of crime, broadcasts a message saying that Spider-Man has gone rogue and stolen a nuclear device that he intends to use to blow up the island of Manhattan within twenty-four hours. This version comes packed with new music, cutscenes, and gameplay refinements. What we have here is an updated version of Spider-Man for the Genesis coming to you on Sega CD.
